PEP NHSSAA Honorable Mention: Team Order & Athletics

Order & Athletics, led by Jayden Zhang and Lohitha Maddukuru, earned an honorable mention in the 100 hour sports research competition for their study on managing crowds after major games. They looked at reports from organizations like FEMA and the Department of Justice to figure out why game celebrations sometimes turn into riots that can cause a lot of damage.

They figured out that riots usually happen because people get compacted together for too long of a time period, especially when everyone is hyped and drinking alcohol. To fix it, they recommended that cities set up special celebration zones, run extra buses and trains so people can get home faster, and train managers to calm things down before everyone starts acting out.
